The running wheels in the mechanisms of movement of cranes are made mainly from steel grades 75 and 65G, also found in steel 45L, 55L, 65L, etc. The diameters of the wheels, depending on capacity, speed and other parameters of the crane are in the range of 160-1000 mm.
The wear of crane wheels comes from metal friction against metal at large alternating dynamic loads, both on the rolling surface and on the flange. Moreover, if on the rolling surface the wheel wears an average of 6-10 mm per diameter, then the flange wear is 15-25 mm per side, which leads to the need to replace them after 1-3 months, depending on the intensity of wheel operation. Significantly the profile of its rim affects intensity of wear of a wheel. In the presence of smooth (on radius) transitions from the racetrack to flanges the wear decreases. Worn-out surface of swing of a crane wheel with a diameter of 900 mm.
The engineers of JSC "Plakart" designed and manufactured technological equipment for mounting the wheel in the rotator of the surfacing installation.
Restoring the surface of the crane wheel by surfacing. Before surfacing, a groove is made on the worn surface of the wheel to remove rust and work hardening. After the groove on both sides of the wheel, an iron strip is installed along the entire circumference at the end to eliminate spillage of the welding flux when surfacing the edges of the rolling surface of the rimless wheel and surfacing the flanges.
Temperature of preliminary heating of a wheel: 150... 200oC. During the surfacing, it is necessary to monitor the temperature of the wheel. It should not exceed 350 ... 400o C. After surfacing, the wheel is placed in a refractory fabric for slow cooling.
The final stage is finishing the surface: grinding and polishing.
