In the injection molding machine (extruder) processes of plastication and injection are carried out by means of the same work element — the screw.
During the operation of the injection molding machine, the outer diameter and width of the screw cutting comb change as a result of wear, which reduces the performance of the machine and the quality of the products. Thus, the worn screw requires repair or replacement with a new one.
Often, the repair of the injection molding machine is reduced to the restoration and/or replacement of the screw.

- In plasma-powder surfacing, the source of heating is the plasma arc, which forms a welding bath, into which the deposited material is fed with subsequent crystallization and the formation of a coating layer.
- In laser cladding, the source of heating for the formation of a weld pool is a laser beam.
In both cases, the weld material is fed into the weld pool by a coaxial transporting gas, which eliminates the burnout of the alloying elements. This can significantly increase the resource of the restored stock.
Surfacing is made on the crest of the coil. To position the plasma torch or laser head, a robotic manipulator is used, which allows to weld on the complex geometry of the coil, including in the places of transition from one step of the coil to another.
Depending on the working conditions of the screw, alloys based on Fe, Ni or Co are used for recovery. The hardness of the deposited layer can be from 45 to 60 HRC, and the service life is increased at least 2 times compared with nitrided screws, as well as with thin-film coatings.
